Scotland has many stunningly beautiful areas which are a little further off the beaten track, but still well worth a visit. One such place is Foyers, a picturesque village in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. Nestled on the east shore of Loch Ness, this is a wonderful destination for people who want to soak up the wild beauty of the Highlands, experience beautiful scenery and absorb some amazing views.
Most people visit the western side of Loch Ness, but Foyers can be found on the quieter side of the lock which makes it an excellent choice for those who are in search of a calm, peaceful break away from the usual tourist destinations. The Scottish Highlands are perfect for relaxing weekends or longer breaks and make the ideal getaway from busy city life.
This area is rich in natural beauty so if you enjoy going for long walks and taking in the scenery, you will not be disappointed. One of the main interesting sights you will see here is the Falls of Foyers, a pair of waterfalls which flow from the River Foyers and into a gorge leading to the Loch. One of the falls is almost 90 feet high and is a truly spectacular sight.
As another point of interest, Foyers is also the location of Boleskine House, just a couple of miles away from the main town. This was once the home of famous occultist Aleister Crowley; it was also owned by guitarist Jimmy Page and featured in the Led Zeppelin film The Song Remains The Same. It is thought to be one of the most haunted buildings in the UK and is now a private residence, though still a place of interest for those who are interested in the occult.
